Meet Daryl Sabara, Star, Spy Kids

1st Aimless Walk-A-Thon

On Sunday, May 4th, join with Daryl Sabara, Star of Spy Kids, in a unique awareness-raising event by participating in the 1st Annual CHPHP Aimless Walk-A-Thon! Help raise funds for people in need and raise awareness about the root causes of hunger, poverty and homelessness.
Begin walking anywhere and at any time. By participating in this event and walking as many minutes, hours, blocks or miles as you wish, you will learn first hand what it is like to be homeless. See for yourself what services are available to help those in need!
The Walk-A-Thon will end at 3 pm when all participants will meet at Clover Park, 2700 Ocean Park Blvd., Santa Monica for a Pizza Party and Finishing Ceremony featuring Daryl Sabara, Star of Spy Kids!
This Activities To Do List is optional and will give you an opportunity to experience more of what it is like to be homeless.
      1. Carry a blanket while you walk.
      2. Push a personal shopping cart that you own or pull your wagon or backpack on wheels while you walk.
      3. Make a sign with words asking for help from the public for homeless people. For example, signs could read, "Need Help for Homeless People", "Can You Help Hungry and Homeless People?" Carry this sign on your aimless walk.
      4. Find free water to drink.
      5. Find a free bathroom to use.
      6. Take coins on your walk so that you can make a telephone call to a friend/family member from a public telephone. Call your friend/family member on a public telephone and see what happens.
      7. Ask your friend/family member to call you right back at the public telephone and see what happens.
      8. Try to find a food line/food service where homeless people can get free food to eat.
      9. Go to Memorial Park Public Showers at 14th and Olympic Blvd., Santa Monica and look at the public shower facilities.
      10. Look for services that are available for people in need. Are there any places that provide free services? free emergency care? free medical care? free dental care? free clothing?
To enter, just make your check payable to CHPHP in the amount of the suggested donation of $5 per student, $10 per adult or $25 per family with any additional donations and sponsorship and mail to CHPHP at 2554 Lincoln Blvd., #522, Venice, CA 90291 or bring these donations on May 4th to the Finishing Ceremony and give them to Ron or Christine of CHPHP.
Participants are encouraged to find sponsors to donate to CHPHP in support of their efforts. If you cannot take part in the Walk-A-Thon, we urge you to sponsor someone to walk for you.
Join CHPHP for a day of Aimless Awareness! For further information, contact CHPHP at (800) 333-4349.

Tennyson Wrote...

After Ron and Christine of CHPHP spoke to the Fifth Grade Class at Center for Early Education, Tennyson expressed his thoughts about their talk.
"Dear Christine and Ron,
I really enjoyed your visit. It was very informative. I might be attending the Aimless Walk-A-Thon. You do a good job of explaining what you do. It really helped me understand homelessness even more.
Hope to see you soon,
Tennyson"

Look for CHPHP on Nickelodeon

Look for CHPHP on an upcoming Nick News on Nickelodeon on a Sunday at 8:30pm during Linda Ellerbee's program on homelessness in the United States. When Nickelodeon called, the producer of this segment explained that when Nickelodeon presents a problem, they always want to include how young people are helping to solve that problem.
A Nickelodeon crew came from New York to film the CHPHP Route for Homeless People to include in Nick News to show how young people are helping to solve the problem of homelessness.
Our thanks to Nickelodeon and their great crew for their fine work. And we thank all of our wonderful volunteers who participated! It is wonderful working with you all!

Sam

Sam began working with CHPHP when he was just four years old. He would come Monday after Monday with his Family to participate in the CHPHP Route for Homeless People. Sam and his Family are an integral part of CHPHP.
Recently, Sam celebrated his Bar Mitzvah during which he demonstrated his genuine concern for poor and homeless adults and children. At this important time in his life, Sam remembered those most in need by sharing of his gifts and the beautiful party center pieces that he created with stuffed toys.

Sam

In his letter to CHPHP, Sam wrote,
"I want to give this donation to CHPHP from my Bar Mitzvah money because I believe you help a lot of people. I'm also giving stuffed animals to poor and homeless children that I used to decorate the tables at my Bar Mitzvah party. I hope the kids enjoy them.
I've been going to CHPHP since I was 4 years old. I've enjoyed helping people in need. They're always kind, no matter what and they always appreciate what we give. I like working with other kids and it makes me feel good that other people are doing it too.
Sincerely,
Sam"
We are most grateful to you, Sam, for your donations which will help many children and adults in need. It is an honor to work with you and your Family!

Did You Know?
"More than 14 million American children - one in five - live in poverty, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. The situation is even more acute for the very young: close to one in four children under age 6 is poor. Moreover, the rate of child poverty has grown over the past several decades, despite rising prosperity in the nation."
The State of America's Children, Children's Defense Fund, 1998, p.1.

Our goal is to create a beloved community, and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives.
