1st Annual CHPHP
Aimless Walk-A-Thon

On, Sunday, May 4, 2003, CHPHP will have its 1st Annual CHPHP Aimless Walk-A-Thon to raise funds for people in need and to raise awareness about the root causes of hunger, poverty and homelessness. By participating in this event and walking as many minutes, hours, blocks or miles as you wish, you will learn first hand what it is like to be homeless. See for yourself what services are available to help those in need.
To enter, just mail your check payable to CHPHP in the amount of the suggested donation of $5 per student, $10 per adult or $25 per family with any additional donations and mail to CHPHP at 2554 Lincoln Blvd., #522, Venice, CA 90291.
Participants are encouraged to find sponsors to donate to CHPHP in support of their efforts. If you cannot take part in the Walk-A-Thon, we urge you to sponsor someone to walk for you.
Please join CHPHP on Sunday, May 4th, anytime, anywhere and walk as many minutes, hours, blocks or miles - maybe just around Clover Park - as you wish.
The Walk-A-Thon will end at 3 pm at Clover Park, 2700 Ocean Park Blvd., Santa Monica with refreshments for all participants.
Join CHPHP for a day of Aimless Awareness! For further information, contact CHPHP at (800) 333-4349.

Students Involve Their School

For years, Rex and Ryan have been coming to the CHPHP Route for Homeless People, with their parents, Ryan's brother, Parker, and friends, to help hundreds of people in need. Last Spring, Rex and Ryan submitted a formal proposal to the Assistant Head of Viewpoint Lower School suggesting that Lower School students participate in CHPHP programs.
It is with great delight that we can report that Viewpoint Lower School Community is working with CHPHP in our efforts to help end hunger, poverty and homelessness.
It has been said that one person can change the world. In this case, it is two friends, Rex and Ryan, who have helped us connect with the wonderful Community of Viewpoint Lower School.

Scouts Help

Bambi, Scout Leader, writes, "Troop 385 began when the girls were in 2nd grade. Over the five years the Troop was in existence, the girls earned money through their annual Girl Scout cookie sales each spring.
When the Troop decided to disband this fall because the eleven girls...were heading off to five different schools, the girls chose to donate their remaining Troop funds to several organizations, including CHPHP. They knew of CHPHP through its ongoing association with Carlthorp, and chose it because they felt their donation could make a difference in several people's lives."
Thank you, Scouts! Your donation of Food Certificates have helped families who would have been hungry without your help. Good luck in your new schools and please stay in touch!

Many thanks to Averil, Kris, Bennett and Kyle for working at Our Lady of Malibu Bake Sale

Sharing Love at a Time of Need

Recently, a father of five children fell, hit his head, had an operation and never fully recovered. Within a month and a half, this beloved dad passed away. While feeling this tremendous loss, his wonderful wife and children were left with very few resources to help pay the bill for his funeral.
CHPHP began a Funeral Fund to help the family meet their immediate need for $3,000. That is when Ellen and Maureen stepped up and asked for the support of the entire Our Lady of Malibu Church Parish. And everyone responded!
With the support of the Pastor of the Church and the Principal of Our Lady of Malibu School, Ellen, Maureen, Anand, Kyle, Bennett, Averil and Chris conducted an incredible Bake Sale. The Coach and 8th Graders made the wonderful banner and publicity support was given by Marla, Kathy and Karen. And then the Families of Our Lady of Malibu and Juan Cabrillo made the Bake Sale successful beyond even the wildest of dreams - donating $1,985!
We thank everyone involved in this Bake Sale from the Heart! Your efforts have given this grieving family support at a most challenging time and your spirits have uplifted all of us!
Through this one Bake Sale, we are two-thirds of the way toward our goal of raising $3,000. Anyone who can share in this gift of love by donating to our Funeral Fund, please make your tax-deductible check payable to CHPHP and mail to CHPHP at 2554 Lincoln Blvd., #522, Venice, CA 90291. Please write, "Funeral Fund", on your check. Thank you all!

Center for Early Education Responds

Christina, student in 5AB of Center for Early Education, writes, "Thank you so much for speaking to us. You made me realize how much I should appreciate my house, food, and clean clothes. I can't wait until we come and help feed the homeless.
Now I have a better understanding of homelessness and can see that it is hard to get out of being homeless. I have really learned a lot and am looking forward to helping stop homelessness."
