About CHPHP

Founded in 1987, Children Helping Poor and Homeless People (CHPHP) is an educational outreach program conducted by children and teens with adult advisors. CHPHP is a department of Fellowship of Light which is a division of Nos Amis/Our Friends, Inc., a 501 (C) 3 California nonprofit interfaith corporation.

CHPHP community service and service learning activities involve young people and adults in direct hands-on projects which help children, women and men in need in California, Oregon and expanding into Arizona. The goal of CHPHP is to help end hunger, poverty and homelessness through education.

CHPHP partners include the Santa Monica/Malibu School District, the Beverly Hills School District, public and private schools, churches, temples, scout troops, community groups, companies, families and individuals.

Ongoing CHPHP programs include Routes for Homeless People, Outreach For People In Need, Adopt A Family Program, Adopt A Teen Program, Rent Supplement Program, Fund For People in Need, Animal Outreach, Thanksgiving In A Box Program, Theater Program, Transitional Counseling, The Speaker's Bureau and Community Picnic and Softball Games.

CHPHP has been honored with letters of support from President George W. Bush, former President George Bush and California State Senator Diane Feinstein, with a Presidential Service Award Citation from President Bill Clinton, with a Commendation from California Governor Gray Davis, by the National Points of Light Foundation as a "Daily Point of Light", by the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank with their "Education and Advocacy Award" and their "Spirit of Community Award", and by USA Today and the National Points of Light Foundation as "Outstanding Local Group" in connection with National Make A Difference Day.

CHPHP has been featured on CNN, NBC-4 as "Unsung Heroes", TNN, and Nickelodeon in connection with "The Big Help", on local and national radio and in print, including the "Los Angeles Times", "The Outlook" and "LA Parent".

In the words of our friend, Mark Hamill, "We will go anywhere and do anything we can to help people in need."
